Honeydue vs Monarch: which couples app fits you?

The real difference is privacy. Honeydue lets each partner decide what the other sees, account by account, and it’s free. Monarch shows everyone in the household everything, costs $99.99 a year, and gives you much deeper budgeting and planning in return.

How we compared: each company’s own website, help center and app store listings, checked Oct 27, 2026. We haven’t done hands-on testing, so nothing here comes from our own use. Our Monarch link is a referral link (labeled below). We have no relationship with Honeydue.

What your partner can see

This decides it for many couples. In Honeydue, you open an account you own and choose “Share both balances and transactions,” “Share balances only,” or “Nothing at all.” You can also hide one transaction from an otherwise shared account; Honeydue’s own example is a surprise anniversary gift.

Monarch takes the opposite approach. Partners each get their own login under one subscription, and Monarch says both have full visibility into all accounts and transactions in the household. Monarch tells you to make sure you’re comfortable with that before you invite anyone.

If you keep a joint account for rent, daycare and groceries plus your own personal accounts, Honeydue matches that setup. If you’ve fully merged your money, Monarch’s all-in view is simpler.

Price

Honeydue is free. Its App Store listing offers optional monthly tips from $0.99 to $9.99 and notes that the app contains advertising. Monarch has no free plan: Core is $99.99 a year or $14.99 a month, and Monarch says it never shows ads or sells your data. Through a referral link, the first year of annual Core is 50% off when you pay on the web.

What each does day to day

Honeydue’s App Store description lists: all your balances in one place, monthly household spending limits per category with a heads-up when you’re close, custom categories, bill reminders, emoji reactions and questions on each other’s purchases, and a way to divide expenses and settle up. It says it supports most U.S. banks.

Monarch brings separate and joint accounts into one dashboard and adds budgets with rollovers, shared goals (even if your money sits in separate accounts), investment tracking, net worth, reports and a monthly summary for money check-ins.

Honeydue is about seeing shared money and talking about it. Monarch is about planning it. If you need to save for something big, like a year of daycare or a down payment, Monarch has the tools for that.

A note on Honeydue’s banking features

Older reviews mention Honeydue’s joint debit card. Honeydue’s App Store release notes say that program closed to new users in August 2023 and was discontinued on September 1, 2023. The budgeting app is still listed on the App Store and on Google Play, which showed an update on June 18, 2026.
